From ChatGPT and other AI tools that generate text or images, to apps that plan your route, recommend movies, or filter spam – AI is all around you. In this chapter, we'll attempt to explain AI by exploring what it actually is (and isn't), how these systems actually work, and why understanding AI matters for everyone.
Throughout this course, we'll use everyday analogies and real-world examples to make complex concepts click. Think of AI systems like helpful assistants that learn from experience just like you do, but much faster and with way more data.
